远看长城，它像一条巨蛇，在崇山峻岭之间蜿蜒盘旋。它东起山海关，西到嘉峪关，一共有两万一千一百多公里。长城在古代是一个易守难攻的伟大工程。它兴建于秦朝，据粗略估算，长城能绕地球一圈！怎么样，够惊人吧！长城是用巨大的砖石筑成的。城墙顶上十分平整，像很宽的马路，五六匹马可以并行。城墙顶上每隔三百多米就有一座方形的城台，是屯兵的堡垒。打仗的时候，城台之间可以互相呼应。今天的长城虽然没有了军用价值，但是长城还是旅游胜地。长城是中华民族的象征，是世界重要的文化遗产。

接下来我给大家讲个传说：它的名字叫孟姜女哭长城。从前，有个美丽的姑娘叫孟姜女，她和范喜良成亲之后，范喜良就被抓去修筑长城了。可是范喜良一年之后还是没有回来，孟姜女吃不下饭，睡不着觉，千里迢迢来到了长城脚下。到了那里，她才知道自己的丈夫死了。孟姜女一哭就是三天三夜。她的哭声惊天动地，长城被她的哭声震得足足塌了八百里长。可以说，万里长城凝结了千千万万劳动人民的血汗。

I ’m sure you are familiar with this site ? the Great Wall, one of the famous wonders of the world.

As a key national cultural relic, the Great Wall was added to the world heritage list in December, 1987,making China and the Chinese people extremely proud.

Looked at from a distance, it resembles a colossal dragon, winding its way among high mountain ranges. It stretches over 21,100 kilometers from the Shanghai Pass in the east to the Jiayu Pass in the west. First built in the Qin Dynasty, the Great Wall is a magnificent structure, easy to defend but hard to attack. It is estimated that the Great Wall is long enough to circle the Earth. Isn’t that amazing? Made of huge bricks and stones, the top of the wall is flat and wide enough to accommodate five to six horses running in parallel. There is one square tower roughly every 300 meters, serving as a fortress to station troops and coordinate military operations in wartime. Though the Great Wall is no longer for military use, it still stands as a tourist attraction. It is a symbol of the Chinese nation and a major cultural heritage of the world.

Now I would like to share with you a folk story about this site. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful lady called Meng Jiangnv. She got married to Fan Xiliang, who was then conscripted to build the Great Wall and was gone for a whole year. Missing her husband so badly, she traveled long distances to the Wall only to learn that her bitter weeping, 400 kilometers of the Wall collapsed. It is fair to say that the construction of the Great Wall was a massive feat that took a ton of laborers to build.
